Official Contest Rules

1.DEADLINE: All entries must be submitted by May 1, 2015 at 9 AM. Entries will be picked up
May 1, 2015 between 9 AM and 12 Noon. Schools, homeschools and parents should call for
pick- up or drop off times. Contact Dotty at 255-6944 or dotty.hoh@gmail.com to schedule
pick-up/ drop-off.

2. Categories: There are five categories for grades: K-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8 and 9-12.

3. Theme: All entries must reflect the theme “ Protecting Ocean Wildlife”.

4. One entry per student. No collaborative work.

5. Originality: Students must author their own art or poetry. Work that is not original is disqualified.

6. Entry Form : All entries must be accompanied by an entry form (please print). If a teacher or
parent is submitting multiple entries for his/her class or family, only one completed entry form is
needed. If an entry form is not received, the entry/entries may be disqualified.

7. All entries must also be clearly labeled on the back, upper left hand corner with the student’s
first and last name, school name, teacher’s first and last name ( PLEASE PRINT ).

8. Art Materials: Art entries should be no larger than 8 ½” X 11” and should be created on paper,
cardboard or foam board. Arts and crafts materials must be used, such as crayons, markers,
colored pencils, yarn, etc. Computer-generated artwork and text WILL NOT be accepted. Submit
art/poetry in a flat envelope. Folded art will not be accepted. Art can’t be three-dimensional.

9. Poetry Format: Poetry entries must be 150 words or less and no longer than 20 lines. Entries
must be submitted on a standard 8.5 x 11 inch letter sized paper. Poetry must be type-written
or printed from a computer. NO HAND WRITTEN or folded ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED.

10. Release Form: A Release Form (attached) must be completed (PLEASE PRINT) and signed by
a parent or legal guardian for each entry submitted. (PLEASE NOTE THAT A RELEASE FORM

11.Use of Artwork: All Artwork/Poetry submitted becomes the property of the North Shore Ocean
Education Coalition. The Coalition may use art and poetry for promotional and other purposes at
its discretion.

All work submitted will be judged by a group selected by the North shore Ocean Education Coalition.
1-5th place winners for each age category will be selected. All of the 1-5th place winners art and
poetry will be displayed at the North Shore Ocean Fest on June 6, Saturday, at Turtle Bay Resort on
the Bay View lawn at the Art & Poetry Display Tent. Winners will be announced and awards will be
made in the afternoon between 1 and 4 PM at the main tent. All winners should be in attendance or
send a representative to accept their ribbon and awards. Copies of the art/poetry will be provided.
