Art & Poetry Contest Rules

All entries must be submitted by April 15, 2016 at 9 AM. Entries will be picked up from the school office. Homeschools and parents can submit art/poetry entries created by your children by contacting Dotty for pick- up or drop off times and locations: Call 808- 255-6944 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Entries may also be mailed to NSOF PO Box 264, Hauula HI 96717.
Mailed entries must be postmarked on or before April 15, 2016.
CATEGORIES – There are five categories for grades: K-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8 and 9-12.
THEME – Entries should reflect theme: “Celebrating the Treasures and Knowledge of the Ocean”
ONE ENTRY PER STUDENT – No collaborative work.
ORIGINALITY – Students must author their own art or poetry. Work that is not original is disqualified.
ENTRY FORM – Each entry must be accompanied by an entry & release form that is paper clipped to the art or poetry. If a teacher or parent is submitting multiple entries for his/her class or family, an entry form is required for each entry. If an entry form is not received, it may be disqualified.
ALL ENTRIES MUST ALSO BE CLEARLY LABELED on the back, upper left hand corner with the student’s first and last name, school, and teacher’s name (PLEASE PRINT).
MATERIALS – Art entries must be no larger than 8 ½” X 11” and be created on paper, cardboard or foam board. Arts and crafts materials may be used, such as crayons, markers, colored pencils, yarn, etc. Computer-generated artwork and text WILL NOT be accepted. Submit art/poetry in a flat envelope. Folded art will not be accepted. Art cannot be three-dimensional.
POETRY FORMAT – Poetry must be 150 words or less and no longer than 20 lines. Entries must be submitted on a standard 8.5 x 11 inch letter sized paper. Poetry must be type-written or printed from a computer. NO HAND WRITTEN or folded ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED.
RELEASE STATEMENT – A Parent or Guardian must sign the Release Statement, at the bottom of the entry form.
USE OF ARTWORK – All Artwork and Poetry submitted becomes the property of the North Shore Ocean Education Coalition. The Coalition may use art and poetry for promotional and other purposes at its discretion.
All work submitted will be judged by a group selected by the North Shore Ocean Education Coalition.
1st through 5th place winners for each category will be selected. All of the 1st – 5th place winners for art and poetry will be displayed at the Ocean Fest on Saturday, June 4, at Turtle Bay Resort, Kuilima lawn in the Art & Poetry Gallery. Winners will be announced and awards will be made between 2 and 4 PM at the main tent. We encourage students to be in attendance to accept their ribbons and prizes.
